I work in the expanded fields of photography, electronic and data art, and experimental art publishing.

From 1990 through 2010 I was based in Milan, Italy where, among other activities, I founded the art periodical This is a Magazine (from 2002) and later the imprint Atomic Activity Books (from 2008) with Andy Simionato. Andy and I currently experiment with nonhuman and autonomous art systems and networks and make drawing, writing and reading robots.

Recently we won the 2020 Tokyo Type Directors' club prize, The Cornish Family Prize, and The Robert Coover Prize for our AI-driven 'Library of Nonhuman Books', and we were awarded the 2019 Tokyo Type Directors' club prize for our writing machine - "Trumpet of the Swan."

In addition to this studio practice, I have a PhD in Art and lecture at the School of Art and the School of Design of RMIT University, and the Victorian College of Arts (Melbourne University) in Melbourne, Australia.
